At Sprout Babies, we firmly believe that it's not enough to simply claim safety – it's about embodying safety in every product we offer. Our dedication to ensuring your child's health and security goes beyond mere words, as we passionately adhere to meticulous third-party testing. This ensures that every product we curate and present to you passes the stringent Sprout Babies Safety Test.
In today's market, countless companies prioritize mass production, often at the cost of safety. Many opt for easily accessible, lower-cost materials laden with toxins. These materials can pose serious risks to our children's health, leading to a pressing need for change. Your children deserve more, which is why we have partnered with a team of esteemed scientists to develop rigorous safety standards that prioritize their well-being.
The Sprout Babies Criteria:
Our stringent safety standards encompass a comprehensive set of criteria, guaranteeing that each and every product upholds the safety and health of your child. At a minimum, we eliminate specific ingredients from all our offerings. While achieving a toxin-free product is a challenging task due to the nature of chemicals and their dispersion, our requirements surpass those established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the FDA.
The chemicals that we specifically look out for are:
- Bisphenols (BPA and BPS)
- Bisphenols mimic estrogen, linked to cancers (including breast and prostate), female infertility, diabetes, and heart disease. BPA’s and BPS’s can be found in baby bottles, water bottles, plastic cups and plates, toys, and more.
- Flame Retardants
- Flame retardants are endocrine disruptors and have links to reproductive effects, breast cancer, and detrimental impacts on child development. Flame retardants are most commonly found in mattresses, car seats, upholstered furniture, strollers, and children's pajamas.
- Heavy Metals: Lead, Mercury & Cadmium
- Exposure to these heavy metals, especially lead, can lead to nerve damage, learning and behavioral problems, reproductive damage, and irreversible brain damage. Some potential sources for Heavy Metals include paints, dyes, and metals used in toys, furniture, gear, clothing, shoes, jewelry, cosmetics, and ceramics.
- Harmful Phthalates
- Phthalates are endocrine disruptors linked to asthma, allergies, cardiovascular disease, male fertility issues, and certain cancers. Phthalates are most commonly found in plastic toys, clothing, gear, furniture, and more.
- Vinyl (PVC)
- Vinyl often contains toxic additives like phthalates, posing risks of fertility problems, cancer, and more. At Sprout Babies, we do not carry any products that contain PVC.
- Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs)
- VOC.s are most commonly found in paints, furniture, vinyl flooring, cosmetics, air fresheners, and more. Sprout Babies entire collection of furniture has been meticulously evaluated to ensure each piece is low-VOC and free of harmful additives.
- Formaldehyde
- Is found in wood glue and used as a preservative. According to the World Health Organization, it is known to cause cancer in humans and is one of the leading components of indoor air pollution.
- PFAs (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances)
- PFA’s are known as “forever chemicals” because they do not leave our body or even the earth. They are most commonly found in products with a water- or stain-proof fabric, including rugs and carpet and even in Teflon pans and they are associated with a range of health risks, from increased cholesterol levels to cancer.
At Sprout Babies, we don't just adhere to standards – we raise them. Our additional criteria, includes certifications like OEKO-TEX Standard 10, GOLS, GOTS, Greenguard GOLD, and more, ensure that our products stand apart in terms of safety and quality. While no single certification can guarantee absolute freedom from all toxic chemicals, our commitment is unwavering in providing you with products that have been scrutinized for the utmost safety.
Your child's well-being is our paramount concern, and we pride ourselves on the dedication to offering products that align with your values and priorities. When you choose Sprout Babies, you're not just buying products – you're investing in a safer, healthier future for your little ones.
